Please hear H 757 in the council. We need Driver’s Ed reinstated across the State of Florida Florida House of Representatives The Honorable Dean Cannon Chairman Economic Expansion & Infrastructure Council FAX: 850-414-8867 Dear Sir: I am a registered voter in the State of Florida and am concerned that H 757 has been heard and moved onto the House floor for a vote.I am one of over 7,000 Florida members of a National motorcycle rights organization. I strongly support this bill! For many years, I have been astonished that the US is incredibly lax in the amount of training required to obtain a driver license. We linger pretty much at the bottom of the list of industrialized nations in terms of assuring people are qualified operate a vehicle. As a Floridian, it has been even worse to see our automobile insurance rates continue to soar as the number of uninsured motorists and traffic crashes continually escalate. I think it was a terrible mistake when Florida counties began abandoning Driver Education programs. Although I agree that there are things we do not need government intervention for; Drivers Education is not one of them. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. With these spiraling costs, particularly in regard to insurance, an increasingly larger numbers of young people will not learn to drive properly until they get out and make mistakes that could have been avoided with proper education. Drivers Education in school will not only provide numerous the opportunity for students from lower income families with a real educational opportunity they would otherwise go without, but it will also expose children from all walks of life to standardized driver training. Education and training are the best places we can start to make our roadways safer. If you have had the opportunity to discuss t his matter with insurance underwrites I am confident you would find that there are few states that need Drivers Education more than Florida. Thank you for your consideration on this most critical issue, there are truly not many more important. If you can help move this legislation along wherever you encounter it, I would be personally appreciative and consider it a great service to the State of Florida. Yours truly,
